Our Board and executive management are comprised of a rich mix of individuals whose skill and experience reflect the nature of our investment business. Individually they are all astute and skilled in business and together they strategically guide Gowings to ensure that the Company maintains the highest industry, professional and ethical standards.

DIRECTORS

John Gowing

Managing Director

Bachelor of Commerce, CA, CPA
Shareholding: 20,881,150 shares

John was first appointed as a non-executive director of the company upon completion of his commerce degree from the University of New South Wales in 1983.

John’s experience includes Arthur Young now known as Ernst & Young where he worked for 4 years in the audit division. After finishing his professional practice year and upon graduating as a charted accountant, he accepted a full-time position with the company as Managing Director in 1987 and he continues in the role.

John is a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Jonathan West

Chairman / Non-executive Director

BA (Syd), PHD (Harvard)
Shareholding: 477,581 shares

Professor West was appointed as a non-executive director and Chairman of the Company in 2016.

Professor West has devoted most of his academic career to Harvard University, where he spent 18 years and was an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Business.

In addition to his academic career, Professor West has extensive International and Australian business experience.

He is a board member of DiCE Molecules, a San Francisco based bio-chemical company, Boundary Bend Ltd, Australia’s largest olive oil producer, the Hydralyte Pharmaceuticals Trust, and the Bruny Island Cheese company. He is also chairman of Hexima Ltd a biotechnology company based in Melbourne.

John Parker

Non-executive Director

Bachelor of Economics
Shareholding: 55,000 shares

John has served as an independent non-executive director of Gowings since January 2002. John is a coach with Foresight’s Global Coaching, providing one-to-one business coaching to senior executives in Australia. John is Chairman of the Audit Committee.

John brings considerable experience to the board with over 33 years in equities research and funds management in Sydney, London, and South Africa.

Sean Clancy

Non-executive Director

Diploma of Marketing
Shareholding: 5,000 shares

Sean was appointed as an Independent Non-executive Director of the Company in 2016 and is a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Sean grew his own business Creative Sales and Marketing Group from 1989 until 2007 when the business was sold to Clemenger BBDO. He has been a businessman with a career focus on sales and marketing. He successfully established and is currently CEO of Transfusion Ltd a business specialising in shopper marketing, licensing, merchandising, and below-the-line marketing.

Sean is a non-executive director of Mortgage Choice Ltd and is Board Ambassador to Business Events Sydney. He is also chairman of Metropolis, a brand marketing digital, and media agency, and Touch To Buy, a mobile application specialist.

Ian Morgan

Ian was appointed as Company Secretary on 18 April 2019.

He is a qualified Company Secretary and Chartered Accountant with over 40 years of experience in businesses operating in Australia and overseas, including the equity investment sector.

Mr. Morgan’s experience includes many years in business administration and accounting.

Ian provides company secretarial and advisory services to a range of companies and is the company secretary of other listed public companies.

James Gowing

Associate Director

Bachelor of Business, CA

Shareholding: 64,504

James was appointed Associate Director in July 2019.

He is a Chartered Accountant and after graduating from UTS spent five years in Audit and Assurance at William Buck. He has experience with a wide range of Australian Companies, both listed and private.

James was appointed head of Gowings’ finance function in November 2020 and assists with company secretarial and compliance matters as required.
